Connecting the Roots — From the Sacred Sinja Valley to Every Corner of the World
Welcome to Chamlagain Social, the digital home for the global Chamlagain (Chaulagain / Chaulagai) community. Our story began centuries ago in the rugged, sacred landscapes of the Sinja Valley in Jumla. Our ancestors hailed from Chaundila Gau, serving as the pillars of the ancient Khasa Malla Empire.
As members of the Bharadvaja Gotra, we carry a legacy of wisdom, spiritual leadership, and resilience that has seen our family migrate from the mountains of Jumla to the hills of Kavrepalanchok, the plains of Hetauda, and now to every corner of the globe.
The Sinja Valley is not just our ancestral home — it is the cradle of the Nepali language. As descendants of Chaundila Gau, we are the guardians of a history that helped shape the culture, language, and traditions of Nepal.
We take immense pride in our roots. Our lineage carries the honour of the Khasa Malla Empire, an empire that forged the cultural and linguistic identity of the Himalayan world. Every branch of our family tree stretches back to this sacred valley, no matter how far the winds have carried us.
The Sinja Valley — nestled in the ancient district of Jumla — stands as the birthplace of the Khas Kura, the mother tongue that evolved into the Nepali language spoken by millions today. Our forebears were not merely witnesses to this history; they were active participants, cultural custodians, and spiritual leaders of their era.
The Bharadvaja Gotra traces its lineage to the great sage Bharadvaja of the Vedic tradition — a legacy of scholarship, devotion, and moral fortitude. This is the inheritance we carry forward, and this platform exists to ensure it is never forgotten.
In a rapidly changing world, our families have spread far and wide. While we grow and succeed in different professions and countries, the bond of our Kul (lineage) remains our greatest strength. Chamlagain Social was created with four core purposes:
Reconnect long-lost relatives and branches of the Chamlagain family tree across generations and geographies.
Create a digital archive of our Mool Thalo (original roots), family rituals, and the sacred stories of our elders.
Build a professional and social network where community members can mentor, guide, and help each other thrive.
Share updates on Kul Puja, festivals, and family milestones that keep our living heritage alive and vibrant.
Whether you spell it Chamlagain, Chaulagain, or Chaulagai — if you belong to the Bharadvaja Gotra and trace your roots back to the Sinja Valley, this space is for you. This is more than a social network; it is our digital Chautari — the gathering place beneath the great banyan tree.
Together, let us honour our past and build our future.
We warmly seek your advice and support in building this community, with the common goal of creating our family tree. Every name added, every story shared, every connection made strengthens the roots that bind us all.
